The Earle A. Chiles Research Institute
The Earle A. Chiles Research Institute (EACRI) is a multidisciplinary center devoted to health care study. Since 1960, research activities at the Providence Portland Medical Center-based EACRI have resulted in life-saving and cost-saving treatment for patients with heart disease, cancer, diabetes and infectious diseases.
Scientists at the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute are currently conducting research in the following areas of cardiovascular therapy:
- Evaluation of new medications for treating high blood pressure, angina and congestive heart failure
- Control of irregular heart rhythms in post-heart-attack patients
- Laser therapy of obstructed arteries
The Robert W. Franz Cancer Research Center
Walter J. Urba, M.D., Ph.D., directs the Robert W. Franz Cancer Research Center’s efforts to find new treatments for cancer patients. Founded in 1993 by Dr. Urba and a team of internationally recognized scientists, the Robert W. Franz Cancer Research Center today garners more than $2 million annually in federal grants and has a research staff of 60.
The Robert W. Franz Cancer Research Center is a world-class research facility located inside the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute of the Providence Cancer Center.
